EU Guidelines

The Czech Republic is committed to the promotion and protection of human rights and democracy. It is one of the priority areas of our foreign policy. The Czech Republic aims to be an active player in this field. One of the main instruments of the European Union's Common Foreign and Security Policy are the EU Guidelines on Human Rights, adopted by the Council of the EU for each priority area of the EU human rights policy. They cover the following seven thematic areas: (1) death penalty, (2) torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, (3) human rights dialogues with third countries, (4) children and armed conflict, (5) human rights defenders (6) promotion and protection of the rights of the child, and (7) violence against women and fight against all forms of discrimination against women.
