PRESS RELEASE - September 3, 2009

Official visit of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic Mr. Martin Barták to Israel.

The Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic Mr. Martin Barták will pay an official visit to the State of Israel on September 6-8, 2009. He will hold talks with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Mr. Ehud Barak and other senior Israeli officials, and will visit IDF bases as well as defense-related industrial enterprises.

Mr. Barták will also visit Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial, and at a meeting with the veterans of the War of Independence who were trained in Czechoslovakia in 1948, he will appreciate their long-standing contribution to the development of the Czech-Israeli ties.

Official visit of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic
H.E. Jan Fischer to Israel

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Jan Fischer will pay an official visit to the State of Israel on July 21 - 23, 2009. On this occasion, Mr. Fischer will meet with President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaker of the Knesset Reuven Rivlin, the leader of the opposition Tzipi Livni and other Israeli politicians and personalities.

The two Prime Ministers will exchange their views on the current international situation, the Middle East Peace Process and the political and economic relations between the two countries. The program also includes a visit to Yad Vashem, a meeting with the Mayor of Tel Aviv Ron Huldai as well as roundtable of Czech and Israeli business leaders.

PRESS RELEASE - June 22, 2009

Heads of Missions of the Member states of the European Union met with minister Silvan Shalom on Monday, June 22, 2009. They discussed ways to enhance economical cooperation with the Palestinian Authority as well as development of the Negev and of the Galilee.

Heads of Missions asked minister Shalom to help secure release of additional frequencies for the Palestinian Authority in line with Israeli-Palestinian Frequency Agreement of July 28, 2008 that would enable the launch of the second Palestinian mobile phone network.

Official visit of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic
H.E. Mirek Topolánek to Israel

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Mirek Topolánek will pay an official visit to the State of Israel on April 22 - 24, 2009. On this occasion, Mr. Topolánek will meet with President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Lieberman and the Head of Opposition Tzipi Livni.

The Prime Ministers will exchange their views on the relations between EU and Israel especially during the second part of the Czech EU presidency.

Rekordní česká účast na Mezinárodním knižním veletrhu v Jeruzalémě

Na prestižním Mezinárodním knižním veletrhu v Jeruzalémě se letos od 15. - 20. února 2009 představil rekordní počet českých vydavatelů. V sekci českého velvyslanectví bylo k vidění několik stovek knih od více než 70 českých vydavatelů, což je nejvíce v celé historii veletrhu od jeho založení v roce 1963. The Enlarged European Troika headed by the Czech Minister of the Foreign Affairs H.E. Karel Schwarzenberg to Israel and PNA regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip

The Enlarged European Troika headed by the Czech Minister of the Foreign Affairs H.E. Karel Schwarzenberg will pay a visit to the State of Israel on January 5 – 6, 2009 regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip.

In the delegation headed by Mr. Karel Schwarzenberg, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, will be also Dr. Javier Solana, Secretary General / European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Mrs. Benita Ferrero-Waldner, European Commissioner for External Relations, Mr. Carl Bildt, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden and Mr. Bernard Kouchner, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of France.

On this occasion, the delegation will meet on January 5, 2009 Prime Minister of the State of Israel H.E. Mr. Ehud Olmert, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mrs. Tzipi Livni, Head of the Opposition Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Defense Mr. Ehud Barak.

In the afternoon the delegation will meet the Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority H.E. Dr. Salam Fayyad and President of the Palestinian National Authority H.E. Mahmoud Abbas.

A Joint Press Conference is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem.

On January 6, 2009, in the morning, the delegation will meet President of the State of Israel H.E. Mr. Shimon Peres.

Official visit of the Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic
H.E. Vlasta Parkanová to Israel

The Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic H.E. Vlasta Parkanová will pay an official visit to the State of Israel on March 29 - April 1, 2008. On this occasion, Ms Vlasta Parkanová will hold talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Ehud Barak and other Israeli officials.

Ms Vlasta Parkanová will congratulate her hosts on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the State Israel and open an exhibition "Beginnings" about the Czechoslovak military assistance to Israel (1948 - 1949) on March 30, 2008 in the Israel Air Force Center in Herzliya. Her program also includes the visit to Yad Vashem, Efraim Military Brigade and Israeli Air Force Base in Hazerim near Beer Sheva.

The Minister will be accompanied by Deputy Minister of Defense Radek Šmerda, Director of Defense Policy and Strategy Division of Czech M.O.D. Ivan Dvořák, Director of Military Historical Institute Col. Aleš Knížek and others.

State visit of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic
Mr. Mirek Topolánek to the State of Israel

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Mirek Topolánek will pay an official visit to Israel on March 9 - 11, 2008. On this occasion, Mr. Topolánek will meet with President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Speaker of the Knesset Dalia Itzik, and other Israeli politicians and personalities.

The two Prime Ministers will exchange views on the state of relations between the Czech Republic and Israel, on the current international situation, on the contribution of the Czech Republic to the Middle East peace process, and on the strengthening of EU-Israel relations with a view of the Czech EU presidency in the first half of 2009. Their talks are expected to focus on the rapidly developing trade and investment cooperation between the two countries and on the specific possibilities of its further enhancement in the field of research, development and science. During his visit, Mr. Topolánek is expected to sign a joint declaration on bilateral R&D cooperation and to participate in a Czech-Israeli business seminar.

The program also includes a visit to Yad Vashem, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries in Jerusalem, and to the town of Sderot, including the local Osem Food Industries plant.

Mr. Topolánek will congratulate his hosts on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel and will attend an opening of an exhibition of photograpic portraits of Israeli Holocaust survivors of Czechoslovak descent and a concert of Sephardic and Moravian folk songs at the premises of the Czech Embassy.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic H.E. Alexandr Vondra visits Israel

Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Alexandr Vondra will pay a visit to Israel on January 21 - 23, 2007. On this occasion he will be a keynote speaker at the 7th Annual Herzliya Conference on Balance of Israel's National Security.

Mr. Vondra will be the main speaker, along with Tzipi Livni, the Israeli Foreign Minister, at the conference dinner on Monday, January 22.

Dr. Alexandr Vondra (PhD in geography, Charles University, Prague) was appointed the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs in January 2007. From September 2006 to January 2007 he served as Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic. In November 2006, he was elected to the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. Between 2004 and 2006, he worked as the Managing Director in Dutko Worldwide, Professor of Euro-American relations at the New York University in Prague, and the President of the Czech Euro-Atlantic Council. He has co-founded PASS (Program of Atlantic Security Studies), a think-tank in Prague. He served as Foreign Policy Advisor to President Havel (1990-92), the Czech First Deputy Foreign Minister (1992-97), the Czech Ambassador to the U.S. (1997-2001) and Czech Government Commissioner for 2002 Prague NATO Summit. In 1989, he was the spokesman for Charter 77 and co-founder of the Civic Forum in Czechoslovakia.

Festive Opening of the newly rebuilt Embassy of the Czech Republic

The festive opening of the newly rebuilt Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tel Aviv will take place with a reception on Thursday, September 14, 2006. After one year of reconstruction works at a cost of more then 2 million USD, the Chancery at 23, Zeitlin St., reopens for business. The date of the opening commemorates the 120th birthday of Foreign Minister Jan Masaryk - Czech diplomat, statesman, and a friend of Israel. A multimedia exhibition dedicated to Jan Masaryk will be inaugurated in the Chancery foyer.

Visit of Václav Havel to Israel

Václav Havel - writer, playwright, and dissident in the communist era, one of the founders of Charter 77, a leading figure in the Velvet Revolution of 1989, last President of Czechoslovakia and first President of the Czech Republic, will pay a visit to Israel in the coming days. On May 21, he will be honored by the title of Doctor of Philosophy Honoris Causa by the Haifa University. On May 24, 2006, he will participate in a panel discussion in Beit Lessin Theatre in Tel Aviv together with minister Yuli Tamir, David Grossman, Yehoshua Sobol, Tomy Lapid, Yitzhak Livni and moderator Oren Nahari. The discussion is being organized at the invitation of the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Israel, H. E. Michael Zantovsky and director of Beit Lessin Theatre Ms Tzipi Pines. Prior to the start of the panel, there will be an opening of an exhibit of photographs by Oldrich Skacha, an old friend of the President: "Václav Havel - Disident, President, Citizen".
