(This article expired 01.06.2020.)

In order to enhance the experience of future Mongolian peacekeepers, Mongolia has been organizing Khaan Quest multinational peacekeeping exercise since 2003, under the auspices of USA. Its 12th session was inaugurated on 20 June 2014. Thanks to new Defense Attache accredited to Mongolia, cooperation in security sector between Mongolia and Czech Republic is being intensified significantly – its result can also be seen from a first-ever presence of high-profile delegation of Ministry of Defense and the Czech Army at the opening ceremony, as well as, participation of 4 Czech instructors from the 102nd Reconnaissance Battalion Forces. In the future, it is planned to have a larger representation.

Mongolian peacekeepers have been taken part in many operations under UN mandate - from Kosovo to Afghanistan and various missions in Africa. The exercise mainly helped them at the beginning. This year's Khaan Quest involved a battalion, which will replace current Mongolian mission in South Sudan shortly after the exercise. Gradually, however, a good training conditions, terrain and usefulness of training areas (by surveillance staff, intervention and combating soldiers, humanitarian, and others, for example: veterinary staffs) attract more foreign observers and participants. This year’s exercise involved military experts and instructors from 24 countries, which set record level in its history, with the largest number of troops sent from, except Mongolia, USA, Indonesia, Tajikistan and South Korea where a smaller number of soldiers came from Czech Republic, Hungary, the PRC, Japan and India as an observer. Thanks to this experience, Mongolian training field is running to be included into the network of NATO military training fields.

The opening ceremony was remarked by Defense Minister of Mongolia Mr. D. Bat-Erdene, where leading Generals of all units of Mongolian Armed Forces, the Ambassador from Czech Republic to Mongolia Ms. Ivana Grollova, Defense Attache accredited to Mongolia Colonel. J. Hacker and Ministry of Defense delegations led by General R. Pilcem were present. With a role of instructor and staff instructor, latter four members of the 102nd Reconnaissance Battalion of Prostějov headed by its commander Colonel Sabel are expected to participate in the field exercises. The exercise is set to last on 1 July 2014.
