Opening ceremony of the Khaan Quest 2015 international exercise took place in "Tavan Tolgoi" (“Tavan Tolgoi” means Five Hills) training area on 20 June 2015.

From Mongolian side, Defense Minister Ts.Tsolmon opened the event and the highest representative of the foreign military forces was the Deputy Chief of US Naval Command in the Asia-Pacific Region. In overall, it was noted that an exercise was expected to involve over 1,200 participants, the opening ceremony was attended by more than 900 military attaches and members of the troops and international organizations in many countries from Asia, Europe and the USA.

The Khaan Quest International Exercise, which is held in Mongolia already for ninth time, takes place in the area that has the status of NATO training center since 2014. It is one of the largest military training events in the region. Its great advantage is the focus on the preparation of peacekeeping operations which allows the participation of countries that do not always cooperate otherwise politically and militarily. This year tutors’ unit of PRC participated for the first time and future peacekeepers e.g. Japan, the Republic of Korea, etc. were present similarly to previous years. After last year's first-ever participation of delegates of the Czech Armed Forces Command and trainers as well as from the Ministry of Defense, this year the Czech Republic is represented by the regular members of the troops for the first time in history.

The 49 soldiers under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Engr. Paul Hriníka, built on the basis of the 53rd Regiment of Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare, respective 102nd Reconnaissance Battalion and members of the Training Command – Military Academy (VeV-VA) are to undergo exercises with a focus on fulfillment of tasks in operations under the instruction of the United Nations. Part of the unit goes through survival training in the extreme conditions of the Mongolian countryside where part of the Czech unit is the only foreign representative besides the US troops.

During the opening ceremony, Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Mongolia I. Grollová heard very positive comments regarding the fact that Czech participation this year is the third largest in number after Mongolia and the USA. There were also admiring comments about visibly high and physically robust soldiers (immediately nicknamed “the Czech boy heroes”) and also about presence of two female soldiers in our military unit.

In addition to practical training and mutual coordination with the future "brothers in arms", a Czech Day will be organized on which our soldiers, together with the Czech Embassy and several Czech companies are going to present also culture, history and Czech economy products to the soldiers of other participating countries.

Exercises will be officially closed by a ceremony on 1 July at which a high official of the Czech Armed Forces Command is also planning to attend.
