Statement by H.E. Mr. Hynek Kmoníček,
Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the
United Nations
at
Comprehensive Nuclear-Test Ban Treaty
Conference on Facilitating Entry into Force
New York
23 September 2005
Madam President,
The Czech Republic fully supports the Statement delivered by the Presidency of the European Union earlier.
The Czech Republic has always been an active supporter of the Treaty. We were the first European country that ratified it. That is why we pay special attention to activities that could facilitate an early entry into force of the Treaty and its active promotion. The Czech Republic decided to support those activities also by a voluntary financial contribution. In 2004 we provided a voluntary contribution amounting the USD equivalent of 450 000 CZK used for financing of training-related scientific expert meetings aiming at further promotion of the Treaty. Another donation is being considered.
The Czech Republic is of the opinion that voluntary contributions of the States Parties of the Treaty and States that have signed but not yet ratified the Treaty could contribute - if used in an effective and efficient manner - in achieving our common goal that is entry into force of the Treaty. We call on all States to give it a thought.
Thank you, Madam President.
