Czech actor and writer Jan Werich, an icon of the Czech  intellectual humor, stars in the double title roles of Emperor Rudolf II and his imperial baker Matthew. The Emperor, already half out of his mind, is in search of the Golem, meanwhile imperial baker Matthew strives to serve the people. After Matthew escapes from prison, he has the unique opportunity to parade as the Emperor and make changes to society that just might benefit the people.

Director Martin Frič
With 85 feature films to his credit, Martin Frič was one of the most prolific directors of Barrandov film studios in Prague. Over his four-decade-long career, Frič worked in nearly all genres but was best known for his comedies. 

About the Series:
This marks the third year of the film and beer series at Bistro Bohem. The focus of the films for this year is Czech humor which is a very specific part of Czech culture. On the third Tuesday of every month from January - December 2014 (unless otherwise specified), Bistro Bohem will feature Czech comedies. All films will screen in Czech with English subtitles. Each screening includes one free beer as well as an introduction from a representative from the Embassy of the Czech Republic. All screenings are subject to change.
