On December 12 at 8 pm, the Avalon Theater will feature director Zuzana Liová's House (Dům) as part of its contemporary film series Lions of Czech Film. This family drama marks talented director Zuzana Liová’s impressive film debut. The film won a Czech Lion Award for Best Supporting Actress (Taťána Medvecká, 2011).

House | Dům
(DIR. Zuzana Liová, 2011, 100 min., Czech with English subtitles)
Ambitious teen Eva, about to graduate from high school, is prone to taking romantic risks and eager to leave her bleak hometown for glamorous London. She lives with her parents in a village near a small city. Her controlling father is painstakingly building her a house on the family property—his modest effort to hold onto his family. When Eva’s not home, he’s always got his eye on the time, and when she is, he has her helping him build a house for her in the backyard. After Eva meets a handsome new neighbor, she is tempted, like her now-disowned older sister, to leave the family nest sooner than later.

About the Director:
Zuzana Liová studied screenwriting at VSMU (the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava), then worked as a script editor and copywriter for Slovak television. She currently lectures in the Screenwriting Department of VSMU.
