DIR: Tomáš Luňák
2011, 84 min., Czech with English subtitles

Shot in the unique style of rotoscoped live-action, the film follows the lonely life of train dispatcher Alois Nebel, who works at the small railway station in Bílý Potok, a remote village on the Czech-Polish border at the end of the 1980s. He prefers old timetables to people and finds the loneliness of the station tranquil -- except when the fog rolls in. Then he hallucinates, seeing ghosts from the dark past of Central Europe. Alois can't seem to shake these nightmares and eventually ends up in a sanatorium. There he gets to know The Mute (Karel Roden - Hellboy, Bourne Supremacy). No one knows why he came to Bílý Potok, but his arrival propels Alois on a journey to resolve the long-forgotten memories that are haunting him. The film Alois Nebel is an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name written by Jaroslav Rudiš and Jaromír 99. Festivals and Awards (selection): Winner of the 2012 European Film Award for Best Animated Feature Film.
