Lidice

The film presents three interconnected stories in connection with the tragic razing of Lidice in 1942. The first reveals a family whose patriarch accidentally kills his son in the heat of an argument and then is sentenced to prison. Paradoxically, incarceration saves hi life. The second story centers on a letter that became the pretense for this Nazi massacre, even though it, too, was evidently an innocent lie aimed at covering up for infidelity. The third story is about fear, personal responsibility, and whether surviving is truly winning when one's dignity and honor are lost.

Festivals and Awards (selection): Won the Audience Award at the Phoenix Film Festival (2012). Nominated for five Czech Lion Awards, including Best Actor (Karel Roden), Best Cinematography (Antonio Riestra), Best Editing (Adam Dvořák), Best Screenplay (Zdeněk Mahler), and Best Sound (Marek Hart, 2012).

About the Lions of Czech Film Series:
This marks the seventh year of collaboration with the Avalon Theatre to present the Lions of Czech Film Series.
