Lions of Czech Film: Shameless (Nestyda)

(This article expired 26.06.2014.)

On July 10, at 8 pm, the Avalon Theater will screen Jan Hřebejk's film SHAMELESS (Nestyda). In this comedy, a TV weatherman tries to ward off his mid-life crisis and his increasingly dissatisfying marriage with a steady stream of affairs. When he manipulates a weather report for the sake of flirting, the repercussions are quick to follow. He finds himself jobless and without a wife. His carefree bachelor lifestyle, interlaced with lovers of varying ages, is not, however, idyllic.

Shameless (Nestyda)
July 10, 8 pm
Dir.  Jan Hřebejk, 2008, 88 min., Czech with English subtitles

Awards:
In 2009, the film was nominated for a Czech Lion Award for
Best Supporting Actress (Emília Vásáryová).

VARIETY REVIEW:

"A TV weatherman gets a bad case of the seven-year itch in Shameless, a smoothly shot and performed marital infidelity comedy from prolific Czech helmer Jan Hřebejk (Divided We Fall, Beauty in Trouble). Inspired by Michal Viewegh's popular book Short Stories About Marriage and Sex," the home-turf hit sold nearly 500,000 ducats last fall. Slyly entertaining, the pic treats relationship issues in a way that should resonate with fest and cinematheque viewers abroad." ~Alissa Simon
