Czech illustrator Peter Sís is being recognized with the most prestigious, international award for children’s literature, the biennial Hans Christian Anderson Award. Chosen from among 30 of the best nominated illustrators from all over world, the International Board on Books for Young People recognized Peter Sís for "his extraordinary originality and deep creative power to relate highly complex stories that can be interpreted on many different levels,” highlighting his use of “different design and artistic techniques, as well as his innovative approach using a subtle balance to depict well-documented and historical events and fantastic elements."
