Diplomatic Soccer Tournament

On May 26, 2012, the Ukrainian Embassy hosted the Diplomatic Mini-Soccer Cup. It was held as a tournament between the European Embassies, in order to promote the upcoming European Championship in soccer that Ukraine, together with Poland, is going to host.

Participating were the embassies of the Netherlands, Russia, Turkey, Latvia, Norway, Kazakhstan, Romania, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic.

The teams were divided into 3 groups with 3 teams in each group. The team of the Czech Republic played against Romania and the Netherlands. Both games were very close and fun to watch, but unfortunately the Czech team came up a little short and did not qualify for the play-offs. The Diplomatic Mini-Soccer cup trophy was won by the Netherlands.

Overall, the tournament was organized very well, and the teams showed the highest performance in front of many fans from their embassies and communities. This tournament was not only about promoting the upcoming European Championship, but it was also about meeting embassy colleagues from different countries and deepening the relationships among the diplomats. We hope that there will be other similar tournaments in the future where the Czech team will have a chance to improve on its performance.
