About the European Union Youth Orchestra
The European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) is one of the world’s most prestigious and dynamic orchestras. It unites Europe’s most talented young musicians from all 27 EU countries, under some of the world’s most famous conductors, in an orchestra which transcends cultural boundaries and performs all over the world. The level demanded of the players, combined with the renowned musical leadership of its conductors, has won the EUYO an outstanding musical and educational reputation and regular comparisons with the world’s finest orchestras.

The EUYO normally tours twice a year, in spring and summer, playing in some of Europe's greatest concert halls, theatres and festivals, as well as performing further afield. Each tour begins with a residency period, where intensive rehearsals and tutorials enable the musicians - who come from all 27 EU countries - to master the repertoire for the tour. The EUYO then goes on the road, usually for three to four weeks in the spring, and up to five weeks in the summer.

In addition to its regular European tours, the EUYO has undertaken a number of high profile tours to destinations including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, India, North and South America, Russia and Kazakhstan. The EUYO also occasionally undertakes shorter, bespoke trips. For example, on 9 May 2010, the EUYO performed a special Gala Concert at Expo 2010 in Shanghai, at the invitation of the European Union and the Spanish Presidency of the EU, as the culmination of their Europe Day celebrations.

The EUYO Spring Tour 2012 is supported by the European Union, the 27 EU Member States, the Friends of the British Council, and the British Council.
