Almost 3,000 visitors came to “Czech” out the Czech Embassy during the 5th annual European Union (EU) Open House on Saturday, May 7, 2011.
This year, our guests experienced the atmosphere of the 1920s & 30s, the time of the establishment of the independent, democratic Czech nation. The visitors had the opportunity to listen to lectures about the vision of the first President, Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, and watch a fashion show featuring 1920s inspired clothing, compliments of the DC designer store Green & Blue. Moreover, our guests marveled over the intriguing technology and history of several classic and current models manufactured by the Czech car company, TATRA. Children were fascinated during the Rockville Police K-9 units’ demonstrations of their Czech canines, Rocko & Boomer, and played in the children’s corner. After touring the beautiful Ambassador’s residence, our visitors relaxed while listening to piano performances by Dr. Joan DeVee Dixon and enjoying a satisfying Pilsner Urquell along with the Embassy chef’s delicious goulash.
