Joint Statement of V4 Foreign Ministers on Ukraine

During their February 24th meeting in Budapest, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia issued a joint statement on the developments in Ukraine.

The Ministers welcome the end of the violence, the election of the new Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada and the release of Yulia Timoshenko. They reiterated their strong interest in maintaining the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The Ministers expressed full support for the efforts of High Representative Ashton and their readiness to travel to Ukraine to share their transitional experiences with the new inclusive government. The Visegrad countries are also ready to resume and develop the reverse flow of natural gas supplies to Ukraine. The Ministers of Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia appreciated the work of Polish Minister Sikorski who was instrumental in brokering the agreement last week.
