First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Karel Schwarzenberg visited the United States

On September 17-24, 2011, the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg conducted a working visit to the United States, during which he traveled to Florida and participated at the 66th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York City.

In Miami, Florida, Minister Schwarzenberg spoke to key representatives of local businesses regarding investment and business opportunities in the Czech Republic at a forum at the Beacon Council, a prestigious organization working to facilitate economic development in the Miami region. While in Miami, Minister Schwarzenberg also met with Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart and his brother, former Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart. Next, the Minister gave a speech regarding the “Arab Spring” in the context of the transformation experience of former Czechoslovakia at the Florida International University.

In regards to Minister Schwarzenberg’s previous visit to Texas and California earlier this year in May, the Minister thus visited another important US state, which has observed rapid economic and population growth in recent years and represents a potentially attractive business partner for the Czech Republic. In addition to its significant standing in the US, Florida and, especially the city of Miami, opens the gateway to Latin America.
