The Declaration of the Visegrad Group „Responsibility for a Strong NATO“ was presented in Brussels on April 18, 2012. It happened in the margins of the joint foreign affairs and defence ministerial meeting. The Czech Republic was represented by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg and Minister of Defence Alexandr Vondra at the meeting.

The main goal of the message is to declare the commitment of the V4 countries to the implementation of the NATO Strategic Concept before the upcoming NATO Chicago Summit. At the same time the V4 countries strive to send a clear signal regarding the readiness of the Visegrad Group to contribute by concrete means to fulfilment of the three core tasks of the Alliance in the field of Collective Defence, Crisis Management and Cooperative Security.

The ceremony took place in the presence of all ministers of foreign affairs and defence of the Visegrad Group countries.

U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), the Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs, released the following quote today following the release of the Declaration of the Visegrad Group entitled "Responsibility for a Strong NATO."

"I commend the governments of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia for their initiative and for their ideas for the upcoming NATO summit in Chicago," said Chairwoman Shaheen. "The trans-Atlantic relationship is vital to U.S. and European security and the commitment and leadership of these four nations reaffirms the strength of NATO. I strongly support the focus on building NATO capabilities, increasing inter-operability, supporting aspiring NATO members, and maintaining a coordinated approach to Afghanistan."
