Institute for Study of Totalitarian Regimes has new partners in US

(This article expired 11.03.2015.)

Representatives of the Institute for Study of Totalitarian Regimes (ISTR), a Czech government funded agency and research center, set up to gather, analyze, and give access to documents from the Nazi and Communist regimes, visited the US in mid-February.

ISTR Director Daniel Herman, Office Director Pavel Zacek, and Economic Manager Rene Schreier traveled mid-February to Boston and San Francisco as a formal step towards closer cooperation with the Universities of Boston and Stanford. Collaboration with Stanford’s Hoover Institution and use of its rich archives will particularly prove valuable for ISTR’s research. The exchange of and access to such materials is mutually beneficial to both sides.

The representatives also stopped by the Embassy in Washington, DC, to discuss potential for future joint efforts with the Embassy. In the past the Embassy hosted ISTR’s exhibition Prague through the Lens of the Secret Police and a 2011 conference on Stolen Lives: Political Prisoners in Communist Regimes, which included participants such as the Heritage Foundation and ISTR’s researcher Adam Hradilek.

The ISTR is currently seeking materials for bequest or loan from individuals in the US regarding the totalitarian regimes in the Czech Republic. For more information, please visit the ISTR’s website at http://www.ustrcr.cz/en.
