Statement of Ambassador Petr Gandalovic on the death of Cuban dissident and political prisoner Wilmar Villar Mendoza

During my recent visit to Miami I had the opportunity to meet with representatives of various Cuban organizations and to discuss with them the current situation in the area of human rights in Cuba. Very sad news reached me during my stay there about the death of Wilmar Villar Mendosa.
I am very disturbed that a young man was let to die by the Cuban authorities and express my condolences to his wife and relatives. Wilmar Villar's death is a proof that unacceptable repression of the Cuban people by their own government continues.
