Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Lubomír Zaorálek is leading the Delegation of the Czech Republic at the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly on September 22-28, 2014. During his stay, Minister Zaorálek has attended an economic forum at Google’s New York Office on September 25.

The presentation consisted of successful companies, focused on information and communication technologies, from the V4 countries. Sharing his thoughts on prosperity and innovation, the Minister was joined in a discussion by Slovak President Andrej Kiska, Hungarian President János Áder, and Polish Deputy Economy Minister Ilona Antoniszyn-Klik.

In the debate, Minister Zaorálek emphasized that new technologies and innovation could help the Czech economy to grow and the nation to prosper. Referring to the Czech Republic’s upcoming 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, the Minister said, “Twenty-five years ago, our slogan was ‘back to Europe,’ now it should be ‘to the forefront of Europe,’ and in this we cannot succeed without the collaboration of our closest neighbors in Central Europe.”

Meeting with Czech entrepreneurs at the forum, Minister Zaorálek also highlighted the CzechAccelerator, which supports innovative Czech firms in developed foreign markets.  The Minister said, “The CzechAccelerator is a wonderful project, which I hope has helped some of those present take a hold on the US market. This support is worthwhile. Many of these firms succeeded in the United States but have their roots in the Czech Republic and in this way they are connected with the Czech economy.”

The information and communication technology sector is currently one of the most successful industries coming from the Czech Republic to the United States. Czech representation posted in the US is ready to assist interested IT firms through economic diplomacy. Namely, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Washington, DC, helps companies in understanding US laws, regulations, and the local market. The Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York cooperates with Czech IT firms on providing a spacious venue for presentation. The Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles works with firms to introduce them to the business environment of the Silicon Valley.
