The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic provides CZK 2.5 million of immediate assistance to flood victims in Myanmar/Burma

On 6th August 2015, Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomír Zaorálek approved CZK 2.5 million (100 000 USD) for the immediate humanitarian response to the severe flooding in Myanmar/Burma through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Myanmar/Burma. The humanitarian assistance shall focus mainly on the on the supply of food and drinking water for the displaced people.

Czech Republic broadly supports Myanmar/Burma in the political, development and humanitarian areas. During the last 5 years, the Czech Republic has provided to Myanmar/Burma over CZK 50 million on humanitarian assistance in connection with natural disasters and internal conflict. Besides the immediate humanitarian assistance, this year, the Czech Republic provides long term humanitarian assistance to the internally displaced people in Kachin and Rakhine States.

In the framework of development and transition cooperation of the country, the Czech Republic also  supports education, social and health services as well as free media and civil society activities. Students from Myanmar/Burma are supported with the development scholarships at the Czech universities.
