State visit of the President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, to the Czech Republic

On January 29 - 31, 2014 the President of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Serzh Sargsyan, visited the Czech Republic. A number of bilateral agreements was signed during his stay.

His Excellency Mr. Serzh Sargsyan, President of the Republic of Armenia, invited to the Czech Republic by President of the Czech Republic, His Excellency Mr. Miloš Zeman, was accompanied by Mr. Edward Nalbandian (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Eduard Sharmazanov (Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly), Mr. Vahram Avanesyan (Minister of Economy), Mr. Derenik Dumanyan (Minister of Healthcare), Mr. Armen Yeritsyan (Minister of Emergency Situations), Mr. Ashot Ghahramanyan (Governor of the Armavir region), Mr. Edgar Ghazaryan (Governor of the Vayots Dzor region), Gagik Khachatryan (Head of the State Revenue Committee), Tigran Seiranian (Ambassador of Armenia to the Czech Republic), other members of delegation and large group of entrepreneurs.

President Sargsyan was welcomed on January 30, 2014 at the Prague Castle by President Zeman with honors belonging to the Head of State. At the same place the negotiations of Presidents and their delegations took place. President Zeman was accompanied by Mr. Luboš Zaorálek (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Mr. Jan Mládek (Minister of Industry and Trade), Mr. Svatopluk Němeček (Minister of Healthcare), Mr. Milan Chovanec (Minister of Interior), Mr. Vratislav Mynář (Head of the Office of the President), Mr. Petr Mikyska (Chargé d´affaires of the Czech Republic in Armenia) and other authorities.

After the meeting and the joint press conference of Presidents a number of bilateral documents was signed:

  1. Agreement on Fight against Crime,
  2. Agreement on Cooperation in the field of Healthcare and Medical Science,
  3. Agreement on Economic and Industrial Cooperation,
  4. Memorandum on Cooperation in Customs,
  5. Joint Declaration on Intention of Cooperation in the Field of Environment,
  6. Memorandum on Intention to Cooperate in Prevention and Liquidation of Emergency Situations.  

President Sargsyan held a meeting with the Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Mr. Milan Štěch. Later he was received in the Prague City Hall by the Lord Mayor of Prague, Mr. Tomáš Hudeček, and, in the Archbishop´s Palace, with the Cardinal-Archbishop of Prague and Primate of the Czech Republic, Dominik Duka.

President Zeman closed the program of first day of the visit by the state dinner, offered in honor of his Armenian guest at the Prague Castle.

The second day program started with negotiations with Mr. Jan Hamáček, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, followed by the meeting of Presidents and Ministers of Economy and Industry and Trade. Both Presidents inaugurated the Business Forum at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

President Sargsyan laid a wreath at the National Monument at Vítkov and closed official programme of his visit with a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Mr. Bohuslav Sobotka.

Before leaving the Czech Republic President Sargsyan visited the Strahov Monastery and met Armenian citizens living in the Czech Republic.
