Coronation of the 15th Emir in the northern Nigerian city of Kano

On Saturday, July 3, 2021, a grand ceremonial coronation of the 15th Emir of the emirate of Kano took place in the northern Nigerian city of Kano. The 15th emir is H.E. Aminu Ado Bayero.

The coronation took place in the presence of Nigeria's Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and other dignitaries, including Kano Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. The Governor originally sent an invitation to all employees of the Czech Embassy in Abuja, but in the end only a three-member delegation consisting of Hana Trousilová, Beata Matusiká and Kateřina Nwankwo left for Kano. The coronation was followed by the traditional "Ride of the Kings", the so-called "durban". Before the 15th Emir of Kano, Amin Ado Bayero rode his horse behind other traditional rulers of different parts of the emirate, the delegation managed to gain acceptance from the newly "anointed" head of the emirate. The Czech Republic was one of the few countries that participated in the coronation, it was certainly the only country with a purely female delegation. Participation in the coronation contributed to the strengthening of the Czech Republic's political and economic relations with the largest cultural and commercial center of northern Nigeria.
