Czech defense companies visited Gabon

From 15 to 18 July 2021, Deputy Minister of Defense Mr. Tomáš Kopečný carried out the first business mission (PROPED) of this kind to Gabon with a delegation and entrepreneurs in the field of defense and security. The aim of the mission was to re-establish previous good relations, explore mutual cooperation and opportunities for business plans of Czech companies in the defense and security sector and in the field of mining and mining technologies.

The Czech companies Czechoslovak Group, DEFCON, Bowenite and Česká zbrojovka participated in PROPED, ie the project to support economic diplomacy. Mr. Jozef Kupec, Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Gabon, participated in the preparation of the visit in cooperation with the Embassy of Abuja.

As part of the program, a business seminar was held, during which Czech companies presented their products to the highest representatives of the Gabonese armed forces, including the Minister of Defense himself. Subsequently, bilateral talks were held with the Minister of Defense and the Minister for Oil, Gas and Mining, and the Deputy Minister of Defense visited a military hospital, the construction and equipment of which involved a number of Czech suppliers. As for the defense sector, the Deputy Minister of Defense and representatives of Czech companies invited their Cameroonian partners to visit the Czech Republic, where they can visit Czech manufacturers on the spot and get acquainted with Czech products and options directly.

Meeting at the Ministry of Oil, Gas and Mining revealed another important area for cooperation, which offers a number of opportunities for Czech companies in this sector. Gabon is open to any cooperation in mining, mineral processing, mining machinery and technology transfer.

On the sidelines of PROPED, the economic diplomat met with the director of the Gabonese state-owned company for the storage of petroleum products in order to establish contacts and mediate interest in the cooperation of the VAE Controls Group.

The visit, which took place in a friendly spirit, was another successful embodiment of the Czech effort to deepen relations with one of the most promising countries in the region of sub-Saharan Africa.
