On the 30th June the Czech Ambassador to Nigeria Pavel Mikeš met the Imam of the National Mosque in Abuja Dr. Musa Mohammed and wished him  Ramadan Kareem. During their conversation they discussed  issues of education and research. The Nigerian Muslim community of around 90 million  is considered the sixth largest  in the world. Islam penetrated into Northern Nigeria, namely the state of Bornu as early as the 9th century due to the Trans-Saharan trade. Islam is the most common religion in the north of country and in parts of the Middle Belt and Yorubaland. Nevertheless Muslim communities  live in all major Nigerian cities, just as there are large Christian communities in Northern Nigeria.
