Sugar cubes or Baťa shoes: Nigerian schoolchildren in the competition "Create Your Czechia"

Around 1,000 school pupils from Primary and Junior Secondary Governmental Schools in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja participated in the art competition „Create Your Czechia“. The task was to create a visual artwork on one of the five topics related to the Czech Republic: Nature, Customs and Traditions, Industry and Innovation, History, Art.

The project, coorganized with the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) and Jioke Gallery, contributed significantly to the development of creative education in Nigeria and to the awareness of the Czech Republic in the emerging generation of young Nigerians, as the competition was presented to 25,000 pupils of the above mentioned schools. The expert jury evaluated not only the artistic rendition but also the extent of the studied topic. Twenty winning artworks, such as the Battle of the White Mountain, or the invention of sugar cubes, were exhibited in the prestigious gallery The Thought Pyramid Art Centre in Abuja, futhermore in the first quarter of 2019 the winners will attend the art training at House 33 Gallery. At the opening ceremony on November 6, 2018, the Ambassador Marek Skolil promised children to try to secure a similar competition "Create Your Nigeria" for the kids from Czech schools.
