Theatrical performances of Kytice (A Bouquet of Czech Folk Tales) in Abuja and Jos

Theatre group, Jos Repertory Theatre, presented in the past with the Embassy of the Czech Republic two Czech plays: Václav Havel's the Audience and the Conquest of the North Pole by Jára Cimrman’s Theater. This time they introduced the classical Czech book of ballads called Kytice (A Bouquet of Czech Folk Tales) by Karel Jaromír Erben and they managed to transfer to the stage all poems, except of Záhoř’s bed and the Lily.

The premiere of Kytice, which was attended by 300 people, was held on January 26, 2017 at Merit House in Abuja. The first reprise took place at the Alliance française on the 10th edition of the Theatre Festival in Jos on March 9, 2017. The performance was watched by another 200 spectators. Thanks to the careful work of stage manager Patrick Jude-Oteh, the level of performance of the play was far beyond expectations. The most appreciated poems by the audience were the Golden Spinning Wheel and the Wedding Shirts, which were presented in relatively light spirit.
