Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is my immense pleasure to welcome you all at the 25th anniversary of Knights. Quarter of a century constitutes an era and during this times, Knights has only thrived and prospered and with them the whole Czech – Ghanaian relationship. Established just after the Ghana independence in 1959, the relations between Ghana and the Czech Republic – than Czechoslovakia - has been friendly and fruitful since. The exchange of our experiences, Czech aid to the newly established nation which helped it to grow, and the flock of Ghanaian students in Prague and other Czech cities are a solid proof of that.

Nevertheless, as we all know, during such a long time, crisis inevitably emerge. We have witnessed two of them recently. The pandemic of Covid-19 put almost every activity to a hold and for businesses, especially those, that are active internationally, the pandemic was an especially difficult era. Just as the pandemic dwindled down and we hoped for brighter futures, the Russian aggression towards Ukraine shattered once again the peace and stability not only of Europe, but of the whole world. The reverberations of this aggression are felt around the globe as the supply chains are disrupted and many fertile fields are planted with mines instead of crops.

To navigate a company in such an environment, is no easy task. But Knights have managed to prosper nevertheless. The sheer amount of projects, they have been able to put into motion is impressive. From the shoes factory through supplies of agricultural equipment to building bridges and even to projecting a new public transportation system in Kumasi – the scope of the projects tell you something about their capabilities.

And all this has been possible thanks to one man – Dr Karl Laryea. Dr Laryea has been the driving force and the necessary amalgam of Knights since theirs establishment. His devotion to promoting the Czech – Ghanaian economic relations and through them also the social, cultural and even political relations is truly admirable. It is thus my great pleasure to tell you, that exactly for this  relentless promotion of a good name of the Czech Republic abroad and for his contribution to the Czech – Ghanaian relations, Dr Laryea has been selected - as first Ghanaian in history - to receive the Gratias Agit award, which will be given to him by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Lipavský during a special ceremony in October, for which I warmly congratulate him.

But let’s not squander this beautiful evening with endless talks. Just allow me to wish Knights at least another quarter of a century of excellent work and prosperity!
