Ghana Dance Ensemble Performing at Dance Prague Festival

Ghana Dance Ensemble, a dance group, is presenting at this year’s Dance Prague festival its “Ghana Sunrise” performance. The participation at the festival is a result of a historically first Czech-Ghanaian project of cooperation in contemporary dance, which included also a visit by Dance Prague director Yvona Kreuzmannova to Accra in February this year.

Dance Prague Festival takes place from May 28 to June 28 in Prague and 10 other cities in the Czech Republic. Ghana Dance Ensemble performed first on June 17 in Karlovy Vary and its “Ghana Sunrise” earned great appreciation from the local audience. The group then also performed on June 20 in Pilsen and the visitors of the festival can still watch it on June 24 in Karlin, Prague, on June 27 in Frydlantska Park in Liberec and on June 28 at Male Namesti in Hradec Kralove.

The performance follows a visit by Prague Dance director Yvona Kreuzmannova to Accra where she attended a dance workshop to pick up three dancers and two drummers, who consequently spent two months in the Czech Republic finalizing the performance with Czech choreographer Monika Rebcova. The festival makes up also a unique opportunity for the Ghanaian artists to get to know current international trends in contemporary dance, an experience they can later share with their fellow students of dance at the University of Ghana.
