Czech Embassy joined Green Legacy campaign again

Embassy of the Czech Republic joined again this year's edition of the "Green Legacy - Arengwadye Ashara" campaign that aims to plant 20 bilion trees within four-year perior to fight climate change a deforestation. During recent rainy season more than 5 bilion young trees have been planted. Ambassador Pavel Mikeš with his family and coworkers from the Embassy joined the effort and planted trees near Fiche town in Oromia Region.

This year the Green Legacy campaign was launched by the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Hawassa in Southern Ethiopia on 5th June, 2020 - on the World Environmental Day. During following months in the annual rainy season more that five bilion trees have been planted, one bilion more that last year. Czech Embassy added more than fifty own trees to this number. Ambassador Pavel Mikeš, his wife Senait, daughter Valentýna, son Kristián ańd staff from the Embassy planted mostly indigenous species around Fiche town in Oromia Region to help the local deforested ekosystem.

Czech Embassy enjoys longstanding partnership with Ministry of Agriculture, Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute and local authorities in fight against deforestation and climate change. Cooperation in forestry and rural development are among the top priorities of the Czech Development Cooperation managed in Ethiopia by the Czech Development Agency.

Green Legacy campaign started as an initiative by the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in 2019 and Czech Embassy in Addis Ababa was among the first international offices in the country to join. Last year more than four bilion trees have been planted. This year the collective effort was not only to plant more, but to take care of those trees previously planted.
