Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, H.E. Tomáš Petříček met with the President of Ethiopia, H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic H.E. Tomáš Petříček met with the president of Ethiopia during his three-day visit to the country. The main topics of the meeting that took place on November 14 were cooperation, support to travel, plans for a direct flight from Prague to Addis Abeba and discussion about the situation in the country.

Minister Petříček mentioned the interest in the direct flight between Prague and Addis Abeba. The Czech side is already discussing the matter with the Ethiopian Airlines. The goal is to make it easier for Czech businesspersons to contact their Ethiopian partners. Ms. President welcomed this initiative together with the offer of assistance with the transfer from centrally planned economy to market-driven economy where the Czech Republic can share its historical experience.

Ms. President Sahle-Work Zewde has appreciated – among other – the Czech scholarships for Ethiopian students and the long tradition of common cooperation. „The Czech Republic have open doors in Ethiopia,“ mentioned the only woman, which currently a head of an African state. Mr. Petříček also congratulated the whole country to the Nobel Peace Prize, which H.E. Prime Minister Abyi Ahmed will receive this year.
