Robot, the Most Famous Czech, Celebrates 100 Years

This year we are celebrating a unique Czech science fiction centenary. It is one hundred years since the word ROBOT has became a part of the vocabulary of all world languages. This happened thanks to creative inventions of two geniuses: the Czech writer Karel Čapek, who wrote the world-famous play R.U.R., and Isaac Asimov, who moved the figure of artificial beings even further into the general consciousness of all people all over the world.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Addis Ababa is pleased to share an essay "Robot, the Most Famous Czech, Celebrates 100 Years" written by a Czech journalist and science fiction writer Jaroslav Veis to commemorate that at the turn of 2020 and 2021, ROBOT will celebrate its 100th birthday.

The article originally written in English was also translated to Amharic and published in a prestigious literary journal TAZA. Both versions, the English one and the Amharic one, are available below.
