Student from Notre Dame School awarded by Czech Embassy

On April 17, 2019 Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Jaroslav Zukerstein, visited Notre Dame school in Dire Dawa to hand over Diploma “Honorable Mention” within the International Children´s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice. The drawing of Nur Anwar, a 16-year old student, was chosen among 25 000 work.
 

The ceremony was attended by all students from the school. The directress of Notre Dame School welcomed all the guests, including the parents of the honoured student. Mr. Jaroslav Zukerstein appreciated the school and its students for their every year participation in this contest and stressed the importance of the message of this contest – to promote peace and cooperation. The student was awarded with a diploma and gifts from the Czech Embassy.

Each year, hundreds of children from all over the world participate in the International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice in the Czech Republic organized by the Lidice Memorial. The jubilee 45th year of the competition in 2017 has been named under the theme "Travel". This year’s edition saw over 25,600 entries from more than 1,800 schools from 83 countries.  The exhibition was established in 1967 to commemorate the child victims from the Czech village of Lidice, murdered by German Nazis in 1942, as well as other children who had died in wars.
