The Film Festival of the V4 countries was held from the 7th June to the 10th June 2018 at the first time in Ankara thank to the initiative of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ankara.

The festival, which is already well known to Turkish audience in Istanbul and Izmir, thanks to the curator Martin Maryška and his initiative, took place in Ankara with the significant financial contribution of the Visegrad Fund and the cultural centers of the Visegrad Four countries.

This major joint cultural event based on the initiative of the V4 countries has already taken place over the past several years.

The V4 Film festival took place in Turkish capital city Ankara, in the Büyülü Fener Sinemasi.

Hungary is currently the presidency country of the Visegrad Group and therefore the event took place under the patronage of the Hungarian Embassy in Ankara.
The event was financially supported also by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ankara.

The festival was launched with the projection of the musical film Hair from 1979 directed by the Czech-born filmmaker Miloš Forman, in connection with his death this year.

The film was enthusiastically received by the Turkish audience.

Two other films of Czechoslovak cinematography, directed by the same director were presented to the Turkish audience: ‘’The Loves of a Blonde’’ from 1965 and ‘’The Firemen’s Ball’’ from 1967. These films were also positively welcomed by the Turkish audience.

Cultural event which was jointly organized by the V4 countries in Ankara will continue in the future and it is justified to hope that it will gradually win the heart of Ankara cultural community and will be a permanent example of the good cooperation of the V4 countries in the Turkish cultural environment.

The Central European Film Festival is the most extensive presentation of the Czech culture in Turkey until now.
