2009-Concert by the international guitar quartet ”Guitar4mation“ in Athens to mark the finale of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union

On 22 June 2009 a concert by the international guitar quartet ”Guitar4mation“ took place in the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens. It successfully crowned a series of political and social discussions and cultural and informative events organised by the Embassy of the Czech Republic during the Czech Presidency of the EU Council.

On the evening of the 22 June 2009 a festive concertby the international guitar quartet “Guitar4mation“ took place in the beautiful courtyard of the newly renovated Byzantine and Christian Museum in the centre of Athens. This music evening was the last one of a series of events organised by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Greece during the Czech Presidency of the EU Council. The concert was also a contribution to celebrations of European Music Day organised in the Greek metropolis.

After a short speech by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Greece Hana Mottlová the 80-minute concert followed. The first half of the concert celebrated and honoured European clasical music (i.a. Bohuslav Martinů, Karol Szymanowski or Joaquin Rodrigo), the second part of the programme presented compositions by world-famous composers of jazz music (Astor Piazzolla, Tomás Gubitsch, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea a další). The quartet “Guitar4mation“ is formed by Petr Saidl (Czech Republic), Michal Nagy (Poland), Martin Schwarz (Austria) and Martin Wesely (Austria).

The excellent interpretation by the musicians and the romantic, history imbued setting added to the pleasant summer atmospehere and contributed to the sizable and receptive audience, consisting of representatives of Greek media, political, financial, social and cultural life, enjoying the wonderful performance.

The concert in Athens was organised by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Greece in cooperation with the Austrian Embassy in Greece and the Byzantine and Christian Museum.

On the occasion of celebrations of European Music Day (21 June),  the guitar quartet „Guitar4mation“ gave a concert in the Apollon Theatre in Ermoupolis on the island of Syros on 20 June 2009. This music event was organised by the Cultural Organisation of Ermoupolis in co-operation with the Embassies of the Czech Republic and Austria in Greece.
