In November 2007 the piano quartet Ad Libitum from the Czech Republic gave two very successful concerts in Greece. The quartet was represented in Greece by Helena Suchárová (piano), Jana Vlachová (violin), Karel Stadtherr (viola) and Mikael Ericsson (violoncello).

On 9 November 2007 “The Czech Concert” by the piano quartet Ad Libitum took place in the representative premises of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Athens. The quartet was well received playing compositions by Antonín Dvořák “Dumky, op. 90 for piano, violin and violoncello” and “Piano quartet in E flat major, op. 87 for violin, viola, violoncello and piano”.

The other concert for a broad Greek public took place on 10 November 2007 in the framework of the piano concert series ”Around the Piano Series 2007“ in St Paul’s Anglican Church close to Athens´ central Syntagma square.

The cultural evening entitled “On the Way to Prague” consisted of two parts – a theatrical narration based on Mozart’s journey to Prague and a concert by the piano quartet Ad Libitum. The first part of the programme, prepared by Greek artists, consisted of dramatic passages describing Mozart’s stay in Bohemia and his relation to our country, namely to Prague, which were presented by the actress and writer Magda Mavroyanni and completed by arias from Mozart’s most famous works which were presented by the young Greek opera singers, soprano Elpiniki Zervou and tenor Vasilis Kavagias.

The second part of the evening was dedicated to a concert by the piano quartet Ad Libitum which played compositions by J. Suk (Elegy Op. 23, Trio for violin, violoncello and piano), B. Martinů (Variations ona SlovakThemefor violoncello and piano), A. Dvořák (Piano quartet in E flat major, op. 87 for violin, viola, violoncello and piano) and J. Brahms (Rondo alla Zingarese in G minor for violin, viola, violoncello and piano).

The concert in St Paul’s Anglican Church presented chamber music in an original way – it did not take place as usual in a concert hall but in an environment which creates a unique atmosphere for this kind of music and it turns similar music event into an unforgettable experience.

The concert of the quartet Ad Libitum was organised by the cultural management company ”specs´n´arts“ in co-operation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Athens.
