2010-Guided tour of the exhibition “Mytilene at the turn of the 19th century through the lens of Fritz Josef Mráz”

On 27 May 2010 the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Greece organised a guided tour of the exhibition “Mytilene at the turn of the 19th century through the lens of Fritz Josef Mráz” for the Czech-Greek community.

The photographer Fritz Josef Mráz was of the Czech origin and lived in the Greek island of Mytilene (Lesbos) between the years of 1890 and 1930. He captured with his camera, in an unforgettable way, the place and the changes it was going through at the turn of the 19th century and during the first two decades of the 20th century. The, so far unpublished, archive photographic material was arranged by Mr. Makis Bekiaris and the exhibition entitled “Mytilene at the turn of the 19th century through the lens of Fritz Josef Mráz”, organised in co-operation of the National Research Institute and the Internet portal www.lesvosoldies.gr, was hosted at the Greek National Research Institute in Athens from 4 May until 8 June 2010.

On the occasion of the exhibition, on 27 May 2010 the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Greece organised a guided tour of the exhibition for the Czech-Greek community in Athens. The author of the exhibition Mr. Makis Bekiaris and Professor of history of photography Mr. Alkis Xanthakis talked about the life of the Czech photographer and his exhibited works.
