2007-International Children´s Exhibition of Fine Arts „Lidice 2006“ – Award Ceremony

On Friday, February 23, 2007, at the Cultural Center of Dafni - To Spiti tou Bouziani in Athens, awards were officially handed over to five children from the Art and Cultural Center of Dafni´s Municipality


On Friday, February 23, 2007, at the Cultural Center of Dafni - To Spiti tou Bouziani in Athens, awards were officially handed over to five children from the Art and Cultural Center of Dafni´s Municipality whose works entered in the 34th International Children´s Exhibition of Fine Arts "Lidice 2006" and who have been conferred the award of Honourable Mention. The awards were handed over by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Greece, H.E. Mrs Hana Mottlová, at the ceremony organised by the Art and Cultural Center of Dafni´s Municipality together with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Greece.

In the 34th International Children´s Exhibition of Fine Arts " Lidice 2006" the following children were awarded: Natalia Tsasel (4 years), Eleni Papathanasiou (5 years), Ioannis Georgoulis (6 years), Sevastiani Tipa (5 years) and Ektoras Kambilis (7 years). Moreover, the Art and Cultural Center of Dafni´s Municipality has been conferred the "Rose of Lidice" medal for the exceptional and successful creative work entered in the exhibition.

The International Children´s Exhibition-Competition of Fine Arts "Lidice" ( www.lidice-memorial.cz) was founded and it is annually organised in connection with commemoration of the tragedy of the Czech town Lidice and its inhabitants, including children, who were murdered by the Nazis in 1942, and generally to commemorate all child victims who suffers in wars. The International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice has been taking place in the Czech Republic since the end of the 1960's and it is well known not only among Czech children and teachers, but all over the world, as thousands of children from all continents participate annually. The competition is organised by the Lidice Memorial and it is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, and the Czech Commission for UNESCO.

The award ceremony was held in a warm and beautiful atmosphere created not only by the presence of the awarded children and their families, but also by the presence of their friends, the little " painter-mates", their relatives and the pedagogues of the Art and Cultural Center. The award ceremony further honoured with their presence Mayor of Dafni´s Municipality, Mr Mihalis Stavrianoudakis, Vice-President of the Art and Cultural Centre of Dafni´s Municipality, Mr Vasilis Stavrianakos, Alternate Director of the E1 Directorate for Educational and Cultural Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Constantine O. Giovas, and Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Peireaus, Mr Andreas Lionis. The guests who attended the ceremony could also admire the exhibited individual and team works of the children of the Center.

The exceptional and successful creative work of the Art and Cultural Center of Dafni´s Municipality entered in the exhibition and the award ceremony represent another example of how important role culture, and in the case of art of painting without language obstacles, plays not only in uniting the people, but also in contributing significantly to the knowledge and understanding of the historical events by the young generation.
