2009-Three appearances of “Pavel Múčka Dulcimer Folk Group” from Southern Moravia in Greece

In October, Czech folk music was presented in Greece by the “Pavel Múčka Dulcimer Folk Group” from Southern Moravia. The group (Pavel Kočvara - first violin, Marek Jurásek - viola, Pavel Jurásek - double bass and Petr Horehleď - dulcimer) gave performances on 20 October 2009 in Larisa and on 21 and 22 October in Athens. The audience of the three events organised by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Greece had the unique opportunity to experience traditional dulcimer music and to listen to Czech and Moravian folk songs

On 20 October 2009 the event “Day of the Czech Republic in Thessaly” took place in the Municipality Gallery in Larisa in Central Greece. The cultural part of the event consisted of a performance of the folk group “Pavel Múčka Dulcimer Folk Group” from Southern Moravia which presented to the guests Czech and Moravian folk songs about love, wine and the conscription of young men. The event was further accompanied by an exhibition of photographs of architectonic gems of the Czech Republic and an exhibition of graphic sheets by an artist of Czech-Greek origin, Eva Vasdeki-Faliagka.

On 21 October 2009 “Pavel Múčka Dulcimer Folk Group” gave a concert in the Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments in Athens. The group aroused interest in the audience in their musical instruments and repertoire and some Greek musicians even played “Moravian” musical instruments after the concert. The concert was organised by the Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Greece, in co-operation with the Greek music agency ”specs ‘n’ arts”.

The group concluded the series of their appearances in Greece with an accompanying musical performance during a reception held on the occasion of the National Day of the Czech Republic (28 October) on 22 October 2009 at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Greece. The guests of this year´s reception were exclusively members of Czech-Greek compatriotic associations and the Czech-Greek community living in Greece and all highly appreciated the group´s repertoire.

“Pavel Múčka Dulcimer Folk Group” was represented in Greece by Pavel Kočvara (first violin), Marek Jurásek (viola), Pavel Jurásek (double bass) and Petr Horehleď (dulcimer).
