2011-“UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Visegrad Group countries and the Hellenic Republic” - International Collective Exhibition of Photographs in Athens

From 13 till 21 April 2011, a collective exhibition of photographs entitled “UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Visegrad Group countries and the Hellenic Republic” took place at the Exhibition Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic. The exhibition was prepared by the Embassies of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and the Slovak Republic in Greece and the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Visegrad Group and the International Day for Monuments and Sites.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Visegrad Group and the International Day for Monuments and Sites (18.4.), the Embassies of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and the Slovak Republic in Greece and the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO prepared a joint exhibition of photographs entitled “UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Visegrad Group countries and the Hellenic Republic”. The exhibition took place between 13 and 21 April at the Exhibition Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic.

The exhibition was installed in the sectors presenting the UNESCO sites according to each country. Further, there were printed materials on the UNESCO sites prepared by each of the participating embassies available for visitors to the exhibition. The aim of the exhibition was, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Visegrad Group, to present better the Visegrad Group countries to the Greek public through a common theme – culture and specifically beautiful and important places, the UNESCO monuments and sites. The exhibition included also photographs of the UNESCO sites in Greece.

The exhibition was officially inaugurated on 12 April in presence of the ambassadors of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and the Slovak Republic. At the beginning of the festive evening the guests were greeted by the President of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO Mrs. K. Tzitzikosta and on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece by the Deputy Minister S. Kouvelis. The Ambassador of the Slovak Republic, V4 presiding country, shortly introduced the Visegrad Group and its history. The event was accompanied by performance of the musical quartet of L. Limorová.
