2009-“20 Years of Freedom and European Integration” – International Collective Exhibition in Athens

The collective international exhibition of photographs and informative panels entitled “20 Years of Freedom and European Integration”, prepared on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of totalitarian regimes in 1989 in the countries of Central and South Eastern Europe, took place between 19 and 30 June in the exhibition premises of the Cultural Organisation of the City of Athens. The exhibition was officially inaugurated on 23 June and it received support of the Representation of the European Commission in Greece and the Cultural Organisation of the City of Athens.

The Embassies of seven countries (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia) in Greece prepared a joint exhibition of photographs and informative panelsdocumenting the historical events of the years 1988 and 1989 which led to the fall of the communistic regimes and reform to democracy. The exhibition entitled “20 Years of Freedom and European Integration” took place between 19 and 30 June 2009 in the exhibition premise of the Cultural Organisation of the City of Athens and it received support of the Representation of the European Commission in Greece and the Cultural Organisation of the City of Athens.

The exhibition was officially inaugurated on 23 June in presence of the ambassadors of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. At the beginning of the festive evening the guests were shortly greeted by the President of the Cultural Organisation of the City of Athens Mr. A. Moschonas, the Ambassadors of Poland and the Czech Republic Mr. M. Klinger and Ms. H. Mottlová, and by Head of the Representation of the EC in Greece Mr. I. Papadopoulos.

The exhibition presented the most important moments of the events which occurred the aforementioned countries in the years 1988 and 1989. The exhibition premises of the Cultural Centre are divided into sectors and the exhibition was installed in the sectors chronologically, according to the beginning of the events in each of the countries. Documentary photographs depicting the events accompanied by the respective legends were prepared by Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. Poland, Hungary, Germany, Slovakia and Romania presented informative panels and posters with photo documentation and accompanying texts. Further, there were printed materials prepared by each of participating embassy available for visitors to the exhibition.
