Czech defence industries at IQDEX 2017

Czech defence producers achieved important visibility at the 6th International Defence Exhibition in Iraq (IQDEX), held in Baghdad on 5-7 March 2017 under the official auspices of the Minister of Interior of the Republic of Iraq.

The exhibition featured large presentation stalls of military vehicle producer Tatra Defence, as well as Lom Praha - provider of aerial vehicle maintenance, support and training. A number of other Czech companies presented their product portfolios at the national stall of the Czech Republic, including Retia and URC System (specializing in electronic communication and security), Primoco-UAV (producer of unmanned aerial vehicles) and SVOS (producer of armored vehicles). Information on the services of the Association of Defence and Security Industries of the Czech Republic was also available.

The Iraqi armed and security forces are undergoing a process of reconsolidation and capacity building after the shock sustained by the country as a result of the violent expansion of the ISIL extremist movement. Naturally, Czech defence producers are ready to offer their expertise to aid this process. Substantial business contracts have already been secured by Aero Vodochody, which is the final phase of the transfer of 12 L-159 light combat aircraft purchased by the Iraqi Air Force, and LOM Praha, which has administered a training programme for 31 Iraqi pilots of Mi- type helicopters.
