First Deputy Police Chief of the Czech Police visits Iraq

Brig.Gen. Martin Vondřášek, the First Deputy Police Chief of the Police of the Czech Republic visited Iraq between 8th and 10th May. He participated in an opening ceremony of the new training compound at Camp Dublin, training grounds for Iraqi policemen, which was funded by the European Union and Italian Carabinieri. General Vondrášek also met representatives of the EUAM Iraq and the deputy commander of the Iraqi Federal Police.
 

At Camp Dublin, General Vondrášek had a discussion with members of the Czech Police contingent training Iraqi police forces under the umbrella of Italian Carabinieri within the framework of the Operation Inherent Resolve. He awarded Czech police medals to the Italian, Swedish and Canadian partners within the training mission, as well as to the commander of the Iraqi Police School, Gen. Hussein.

General Vondrášek also visited the EUAM Iraq, an EU Mission to support the civilian security sector reform in Iraq. With its representatives, he discussed activities of the mission and plans for the future following the mission’s strategic review. He also talked with the deputy commader of the Iraqi Federal Police, Brig. Gen. Karem Tuhmaz Mufti about the situation in the Iraqi police after the defeat of Daesh and about the support that international community provides to the police force.

The visit of General Vondrášek has underscored the continued commitment of the Czech republic to support Iraqi security forces so that they are able to fight against terrorism and to provide security environment conducive to stabilisation and safe return of refugees and internally displaced persons.

Specifically in the training mission led by the Carabinieri, the Czech Republic deploys 5 policemen of the Czech Police and 7 members of Military Police of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic. They train Iraqi police members primarily in Law and Order course that focuses on improving basic police skills. The Czech trainers also provide advance training, such as Crowd Riot Control or SWAT training in High Risk Operations. The Czech members of the mission also contribute to the force protection of Camp Dublin.
