The EU-funded “Support to the Implementation of the Mobility Partnership with Azerbaijan (MOBILAZE)” project, implemented in the framework of the Mobility Partnership signed between the EU and Azerbaijan aims to provide a solid ground and real opportunities for direct exchange between countries – signatories of the Mobility Partnership in order to foster responsible migration management.

Representatives of the Azerbaijani state institutions, the Delegation of the European Union, the international experts from the Czech Republic and t Netherlands; and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) gathered on 20 February, 2018. On this occasion was opened three-days’ workshop on Profiling and Identification at the border. The event took place at Hyatt Regency Hotel Baku.

The objective of the MOBILAZE project is to support the implementation of the Mobility Partnership by strengthening the capacity of the government to develop and implement their national migration policy. The project also aims to improve the monitoring, analytical and forecasting capacities of the government of Azerbaijan in the field of migration; to strengthen the capacities in the fields of labour migration, document security, and implementation of the national asylum policy and sustainable reintegration of returned Azerbaijani nationals.  Raising public awareness about mobility matters between the EU and Azerbaijan is another expected result of the project.

During this workshop, the international and ICMPD experts on selected topic delivered tailor made training to the state officials from the State Border and the State Migration Services of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on profiling and identification and shared knowledge on both, the theoretical background of EU/national practices and operational experience. The outcome of the interactive sessions was the strengthening capacities of Azerbaijani agencies involved in border management, improved national inter-agency and international cooperation in the field of profiling and list of recommendations for follow up activities. The activity was also a follow up of previously implemented workshops and study visits to EU Member States, including the Czech Republic, with focus on document security. Ambassador of the Czech Republic and the Netherlands have opened the event together with the participation from the project donor EU Delegation, ICMPD Regional Coordinator for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
