Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic: 20 years in NATO

On 12 March 2019, the day of the 20th anniversary of Czech, Polish and Hungarian entry into NATO, the ADA University, working under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, hosted a panel discussion on the experience of all three countries with accession and membership in the Alliance. The discussion focused on the transformation of the armed forces of the three Central European countries as well as on their participation in the system of collective defence and missions outside the Alliance borders. Issues such as defence spending and public views on security and defence were also discussed with students and members of the diplomatic community in Baku.

The Hungarian Ambassador, H.E. Viktor Szederkényi who heads the NATO Contact Embassy in Baku and used to serve as the Deputy Head of the Hungarian Permanent Delegation to NATO participated in the panel along with the Polish Military Attaché in Azerbaijan, Col. Paweł Adamczyk and Pavlína Bláhová, M.A. from the Center for Security Policy at the Charles University in Prague. The discussion was moderated by the ADA Vice Rector Fariz İsmayılzadə and the Director of the Centre of Excellence in EU Studies of the University Nargiz İsmayilova.
