Success of „Daughter“ at film festivals in Baku

In October and November 2019, the short film „Daughter“ directed by Daria Kashcheeva and edited by her husband Alexander Kashcheev, both Russian citizens studying at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), received awards at two film festivals in Baku.

In „Daughter“, her Bachelor’s puppet animation, Daria Kashcheeva explores the topic of father-daughter relationship. Premiered at the 2019 Annecy Animated Film Festival, this touching short film already received a number of international awards, including the Gold Medal for International Animation at the 46th Student Academy Awards – the first golden „student Oscar“ for a Czech film since Jan Svěrák's legendary „Ropáci“ was awarded in 1989.

As of November 2019, the list of awards for „Daughter“ and its creators includes three from Azerbaijan. On 20 October 2019, it received a diploma for the Best Short Animated Film at the 2nd ANIMAFILM International Animation Festival in Baku; later that month, the award was presented to Daria Kashcheeva in Prague by ANIMAFILM's Director, Rəşid Ağamalıyev. On 9 November, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Azerbaijan, H.E. Milan Ekert received two awards for „Daughter“ on behalf of Daria Kashcheeva from the Jury of the 10th Baku International Short Film Festival – one for the Best Animated Film and another for the Best Animated Film Director.

The awards received by „Daughter“ at festivals around the world are a great success for Czech film and FAMU in particular, proving that it remains a magnet for talent and creative energy from around the world.
