Czech technology is helping in the north of Thailand

The Embassy in Bangkok supported the supply of an aerobic fermentor of Czech origin to the local community and cooperative in the Mae Chaem area in northern Thailand as part of the Czech Republic's foreign development cooperation and a small-scale local project.

On March 11, 2021, Ambassador Marek Libřický and the Governor of Chiang Mai Province Charoenrit Sanguansat attended the ceremony of handing over of the container fermentation technology for processing of bio waste to the farming cooperative in the Mae Chaem area.

The delivery of the fermentor will bring a double positive effect. Local farmers will be able to further process bio waste generated after the harvest of local crops (primarily maize) into industrial compost and organic fertilizer.

The second and perhaps even greater benefit will be that the rate of bio waste burning will be reduced and air quality will be significantly improved. This topic is all the more acute because the province of Chiang Mai is for part of the year one of the most polluted and polluting places not only in Thailand but in the world thanks to this traditional practice of local farmers.

The implementation of this type of small-scale local project also brings with it other related economic possibilities. The aim of the invitation for the Governor to the ceremony was to raise awareness of a simple solution that will significantly improve the socio-economic situation of the local population and at the same time improve air quality. Governor Charoenrit has shown a keen interest in the technology and expressed hope that the Mae Chaem area will become a pilot example for other municipalities.

The economic continuity of small-scale local projects is also evidenced by the fact that the previously delivered surface water treatment plant to the community in the provincial capital of Chiang Mai is now followed by the commercial delivery of the same technology to a public hospital on Phuket Island.

During the visit to the Mae Chaem community, the following possibilities of cooperation in reforestation in the Mae Chaem area using Czech technologies was also discussed with Governor Charoenrit and local experts, all in cooperation with one of the universities in Chiang Mai.

The Embassy thanks the implementing organization of the small scale local project Chiang Mai Seocial Enterprise for its excellent cooperation on two projects that will help improve the living and economic conditions of the people of Chiang Mai Province.
