Czechoslovak Evening at Chulalongkorn University

On 11 June, 2018, in the Framework of the Czech and Slovak Joint Century Project and in the cooperation with the Centre for European Studies of the Chulalongkorn University the evening with traditional Moravian music and dances and our common history took place. The event that included the performance of the group Olšava, projection of the film documentary and exhibitions dedicated to the independence of Czechoslovakia, Czech entrepreneur Tomáš Baťa and first Czechoslovak president T.G. Masaryk was very well received by a high turnout of predominantly Thai public.

After opening speeches by Ambassadors Marek Libřický and Stanislav Opiela the group Olšava consisting of twenty musicians and dancers performed songs and dances from southern region of Slovácko. Projection of the film documentary showing events taking place in October and November 1918 was accompanied by short historical discourse. After the music part of the event, the viewers moved to the exhibition hall.

The success of the event, which aimed mainly at young Thai public, was confirmed by interest in Czech – Slovak musical and cultural traditions and events taking place in both countries for attracting of more Thai travelers to both countries from representatives of a number of Thai travel associations and magazines/websites.
