As part of the traditional and largest university fair in Thailand – OCSC 2019 – that took place on November 2-3,2019, in total eleven Czech universities and a governmental student program StudyIN the Czech Republic were presented. Two Czech universities, the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen and the Czech Technical University Prague, participated for the first time in person.

The Embassy, in cooperation with representatives of West Bohemia University and Czech technical University, presented also  following Czech universities - Charles University Prague, Masaryk University Brno, Mendel University Brno, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, University of Pardubice, University of Tomáš Baťa in Zlín, University of Economics Prague, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, University of Chemistry and Technology Prague, and the governmental student program StudIN the Czech Republic.

During two days, there was practically permanent interest in Czech universities, with about 220-250 students or their parents discussing possible study in the Czech Republic. Similar to previous year at OCSC, the students were mainly interested in the study of technical fields, medicine, economics and management.

Representatives from both universities expressed very positive feedback on the size and organization of the fair, the interest of Thai students and the level of their English knowledge. Both universities also established concrete cooperation in sending students to technical fields with a local agency, which so far mediates the study of self-payers at medical faculties in Prague, Brno and Hradec Králové. Both, the University of West Bohemia and the Czech Technical University, have tentatively expressed their interest in personal participation in OCSC 2020, and will try to attract additional universities and thus expand the Czech participation in OCSC 2020 in quantitative and qualitative terms.

Representatives of the University of West Bohemia represented by Vice-Dean for International Relations and Cooperation in the week preceding the fair visited and negotiated with a total of five Thai universities - King Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi, Asian Institute of Technology, Chulalongkorn University (here Rector of this most renowned Thai University), Mahidol University and King Mongkut Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. All universities have confirmed an interest in working with the University of West Bohemia, and generally with Czech universities, which are considered to be first-rate in terms of teaching quality and economically more feasible than universities in Western Europe.

Representatives of the University of West Bohemia and the representatives of the Czech Technical University (ČVÚT) discussed with the Embassy the possibility of closer cooperation not only in the area of obtaining self-paying students, but also reciprocal exchange of students, PhD students and professors. Discussions were also held on linking university research and development centers in areas such as aviation, transport and the defense industry.

The second year of participation of Czech universities and the Embassy in the OCSC showed hidden great potential for building interpersonal relations and the contribution to building high-quality bilateral relations in the form of R&D cooperation. Also for OCSC 2020, we will try to increase the Czech presence in terms of the number of attending universities in order to further increase awareness among the Thai public about the possibilities of studying in the Czech Republic in the spirit of the “Czech Republic, Country for Future” campaign. We are convinced that the Czech Republic can offer Thailand, which is also trying to accelerate the industrial revolution 4.0, closer cooperation in this area.
