Czech movie The Nettle introduced to the Chinese audience for the first time

During the ongoing 2018 LGBT Film Festival held in Guangzhou, in the southern province of Guangdong, a Czech movie The Nettle was presented by the director Ms Xie Piaoyu. During the event jointly organized by the Embassy of Czech Republic in Beijing and the Consulates General of the Netherlands and New Zealand, attendees had the opportunity to be among the first in China to see the short movie about a teenager Nikola. Subsequently, the audience debated vividly with the director about the movie and her forthcoming work also focusing on LGBT issues.

On June 18, the director and producer of the movie The Nettle flew in from the Czech Republic to present the movie. During the debate, she explained why she chose the topic of LGBT and why she believes it is important to tell such stories as of Nikola through film.

The Nettle,as well as Piaoyu's entire filmography, is a brave revelation of a personal quest for exploration, experimentation and excitement of a youthful spirit. By leading us closer into an intimate space of two teenagers Nikola and his girlfriend in search for self and values of family, the author eliminates artificially constructed obstacles of gender, age or class.

The 2018 LGBT Film Festival is a month long project co-organized by 15 Consulates and Embassies in China. The main aim of the Festival is to highlight diversity of love. The festival has been organized for four consecutive years and presents films from all across the globe.

The movie screening is part of the Czech Days in the Greater Bay area, Fujian and Hainan.
